Hi everyone! More cookie news coming your way. Has anyone heard of The Cookie Department? I stumbled across this company online and was very intrigued by the cookies they had to offer.  The Cookie Department was founded by Akiva who came up with the idea of the ‘functional’ treat while sitting in a mundane office meeting.  That day he also came up with the idea for The Cookie Department as well as the first functional cookie which was the awaken baked cookie (an espresso cookie…how perfect right?).  Akiva later on met Pam who is co-founder and CEO as they discovered they both had a shared interest for all things cookie. The duo has been creating an inventive assortment of functional cookies ever since and I had the pleasure of sampling these rather large cookies out! Awaken Baked Cookie: a fully caffeinated chocolate chip cookie infused with organic fair trade coffee. Equivalent to one cup of coffee!! Sprinkled with organic sea salt. This cookie definitely perked me right up after just one bite.  The espresso flavor is quite strong so this cookie is definitely for the coffee lovers out there. If you do not drink coffee, you will hate this cookie.  I could only eat half of it as I was really tasting the bitterness of the espresso, but I kept nibbling at the other half because it really is a functional cookie for an afternoon pick-me up! Chocolate Chip Nookie – a chocolate chip cookie infused with Maca Root, a Peruvian Root which has been known to be a natural aphrodisiac. Very rich in taste and sprinkled with sea salt. Now this was a damn good chocolate chip cookie.  Not as chewy as I thought it would be, but also not too crunchy, it was right in the middle of being a near perfect chocolate chip cookie.  It wasn’t overly rich/sweet and had a good amount of chocolate chips in it.  It was hard to eat only half but I was trying to limit these cookies to only half per day because the calories in them are a bit high (170 calories per half cookie). Tough Cookie: a peanut butter cookie infused with 10 grams of whey protein. This cookie might’ve been my fave of the bunch because I am obsessed with peanut butter.  I really like that there is whey protein in this too so I don’t feel as guilty when eating it haha.  It’s a bit chewier than the chocolate chip cookie and I swear there are chunks of peanuts or peanut butter chips in it, man it was good.  A winning cookie right here, and good to nibble on post-workout! Great Full: a vegan sweet potato cranberry oatmeal cookie. Cranberries and sweet potatoes are a great source for antioxidants. I like that they threw in a vegan cookie into their inventive cookies and added great ingredients of sweet potato, oatmeal and cranberries! The cookie was a bit dry but the tart cranberries helped to give this cookie some flavor.  It wasn’t my favorite of the bunch, but I do appreciate a good vegan cookie. Snap Back: a chewy gingersnap infused with cayenne pepper, cloves and blackstrap molasses. These three ingredients are great for body detox. This cookie is being sold as our hangover cookie! This cookie was my favorite hands down! If you like gingersnaps then this cookie will satisfy you completely.  Its chewy and FULL of ginger flavor.  After your first chew and swallow the cayenne pepper hits you and its amazing.  I love the heat of this cookie.  The combination of ingredients really was perfected to make this an extra special cookie.  I like that they used natural detoxifiers (cayenne, ginger, molasses) in this cookie for some added benefits along with excellent flavor.
